Platforms and limits
What was verified, what was only built, and what the engine does not do. Read this before you commit a project to it.
Requirements
- Unity 6000.3 (8f1 or later).
- The Built-in Render Pipeline. URP and HDRP are not supported.
- The Input System package, with Active Input Handling set to Input System Package or Both.
- Mono or IL2CPP. The engine is plain C# on the main thread, with no native plugins and no reflection at runtime.
Platforms
| Platform | Status |
|---|---|
| Windows editor | Verified: the full test suite passes |
| Windows player (Mono) | Verified: every player check passes, no heap growth |
| WebGL player (IL2CPP) | Verified in a headless browser: every player check passes. Needs WebGL 2 |
| Android (ARM64) | Builds. Not yet run on a device |
| macOS, Linux, iOS, consoles | Not built yet |
- WebGL and consoles have no system fonts. Ship font packs for every script you show, including
Default. On WebGL the clipboard stays inside the player. - Burst kernels are not used on WebGL; plain C# runs instead. Where GPU buffers are unavailable, a mesh renderer is used.
- Code stripping at Medium was verified; the package's
link.xmlkeeps what Unity creates by name.
Not yet checked on screen: Gamma color space with backdrop-filter and mix-blend-mode, the Vulkan, Metal and OpenGL graphics APIs, and XR headsets. On-screen keyboards, IME on devices, gamepads and touch were exercised by tests, not by hand on hardware.
Not supported
| Area | Missing |
|---|---|
| Scripting | JavaScript. Logic is C#; existing web pages and web apps do not run |
| Layout | Multi-column, vertical writing modes, subgrid, scroll snapping |
| CSS | @layer, @container, @property, color(), color-mix(), ::first-line, ::first-letter, hyphens: auto, url() filters and clip paths |
| 3D | Depth sorting and plane splitting of 3D-transformed elements |
| Fonts | WOFF, WOFF2, variable fonts, COLR v1, SVG glyphs, hinting |
| Images | WebP and GIF |
| SVG | <text>, <image>, pattern, markers, filters, SMIL animation, foreignObject |
| Input | The HTML drag-and-drop API (draggable); build drags from pointer events |
| Components | Slot props (let:), dynamic tags and components |
| Locales | Ordinal and gender forms |
| Render pipelines | URP and HDRP |
Known costs
- Inserting or removing an element, or switching
display, rebuilds the layout of the whole view and allocates. Keep frequent popups in the page and show them withvisibility. See Performance. - A view keeps 7 to 10 MB of managed memory for a page of 1,600 elements, more than UI Toolkit keeps for the same content.
- Unity content elements (
<unity-camera>,<unity-model>,<video>) cost a draw call each, plus their own rendering.
